• Once screened for safety, most women can birth safely out of hospital 

• Our role is to observe, monitor mother and baby and to support and promote the normal process 

• Drugs and surgery are appropriately and medically indicated for only a small number of women. Medical interventions should be used only when mother or baby are at risk 

• Women, babies and their families benefit from the most natural birth possible and because childbirth affects more than just mothers and babies, maternity care should support and promote the well-being of all family members
