What Our Families Are Saying:

What makes the Baby Place Midwives & Birth Center special? Just ask our families.

We are proud to say most people learn about us from their friends, families and colleagues.

We are grateful for the continued and consistent direct word-of-mouth referral from our families – the best compliment we could get.

From Baby Place Dads:

"“I always imagined that I would have my children at Saint Luke's.  When my wife, Natalie, informed me of her wish to have a natural birth I was very resistant. We visited & talked with several different OBGYN's and midwifery women's clinics before we were introduced to the Baby Place. Once there, we were immediately comfortable with the environment and mentality of the baby place staff, and Natalie felt an immediate kinship to Coleen. I drilled Coleen personally about her practices and put her through several "what if" hypothetical situations/questions. She impressed me with her knowledge, acknowledgment that hospitals do have a definite place in the birthing world, and that she was focused first and foremost on the health of Natalie and my soon-to-be baby boy, Davis. When the labor began for Davis to start coming into this world we were greeted with an outstanding room at the baby place, with an unmatched ambiance, and knowledgeable/experienced staff, for the best possible experience that we could ever have imagined for labor and delivery.
I also personally know at least 16 other couples that are just as happy, with their birth experience at the Baby Place, as we are, one family which had their 9th child there and said they wished they had known Coleen for the previous 8 children.”
Ryan Taylor, Nampa

"The midwives all worked together so well, knew each other so well, and seemed to anticipate each others needs. It was like having "one midwife with six hands".

Nathan Cook, Middleton

"It was more comfortable than my own home. Coleen is extremely skilled and professional, yet feels like family."

Johnny Kennedy, Boise

"Every once in awhile you encounter a level of service that just blows you away. And after you have had time to reflect on that service you let everyone else know where they too can experience that same service. I can whole heartedly recommend the Baby Place and the Midwives there. Their service was phenomenal ,encompassing not only mother and child but attention was afforded to me as well. I can honestly say that throughout the pregnancy and during the birth that I felt completely confident that Coleen and the other midwives had everything in control and accounted for."

 From Baby Place Moms:

We learned in our second childbirth class that one of the major factors in a satisfying birth outcome is that the mother in labor must feel safe. This was the major difference between the birth of our first child with a certified nurse midwife in a hospital and the birth of our second child at the Baby Place under the care of the qualified and loving midwives who work there. Though we went into both experiences with the expectation of a natural birth, the first was a 30-hour nightmare that ended in snowball of interventions. My family can never express enough appreciation to the midwives at the Baby Place for providing the empowering and healing experience that was the birth of our second child. You all have a calling and are doing exactly what you should be doing in this world.

"I just want to let you know that I felt completely safe in your care and will continue to recommend you to every expectant woman I come across. My prenatal care and birthing experience at The Baby Place was perfect. After dealing with you wonderful midwives there is no way I would ever consider having a hospital birth. My birthing center experience was so beautiful and tender; I get tears in my eyes just thinking about it. Thank you all for everything.  Coleen, you are an amazing woman and an excellent midwife.  You have done so much for me and my family"

I delivered my first baby in April of 2006. I knew when we first found out we were pregnant that I wanted to have my baby naturally in a safe, loving environment. After several interviews with local midwives I found Coleen.  She fit all the qualifications I was looking for and and all the intangibles as well. Being a first time mom I was naturally anxious and full of questions, during my prenatal visits I never felt rushed or that they didn’t have time educate and reassure me. While my delivery was far from pain free, my husband and I were surrounded by women that we knew and that cared for us. I had the profound feeling that my midwives had been where I was, and had faith in me that I could do it too. The hours after delivery were warm and beautiful. For the most part we were left alone with our baby to establish crucial bonding, and the necessary interruptions were brief and unassuming. The Baby Place is my first choice for future deliveries and I recommend it highly to family and friends.

"There is not a day that goes by that we don't think about the day of Brooke's birth. It's been 3 years and 4 months and it still seems like yesterday. Brooke's birth was an experience of peace and it was so spiritual that it's almost too hard to describe. You have created an atmosphere at The Baby Place that should be available to new mothers everywhere. Your knowledge, expertise and calming approach is amazing. The experience we had at The Baby Place is one that made a difference in our own lives.....by learning patience, becoming more humble and even realizing that God plays a big part in blessing us. All the moms that have been to The Baby Place have experienced the best birthing center and can acknowledge "His Great Hand of Blessing".

The Baby Place Birth Center could not have been a more perfect place for the birth of our daughter. Our wonderful midwife, Coleen Goodwin, and her team of loving, qualified midwives, helped us to feel safe during the birth process, and to take comfort and pleasure in introducing our daughter to the world. Thank you Colleen, Jerusha, Brittany, and Katie. You made a safe and wonderful place for us, and we honor you for it.

I delivered my first born at St. Lukes Hospital in 2004. My pregnancy was wonderful and my birth was “normal”” according to the doctor and hospital staff. I got an epidural at 4cm and pitocin to speed up the process. I got an episiotomy to help my little girl to come out quickly into the arms of a doctor I didn’t even know! They took her away from me for 45 minutes to get “goop” out of her nose and then I finally got to hold my precious baby. I was then transferred to my room for them to knock me out with a sleeping pill that they said was necessary while they took my baby to their nursery and fed her formula without my permission. They gave her shots without my knowledge and put cream in her eye without telling me (which led to a clogged tear duct for 1 year). That was my experience. I had my second blessing at the Baby Place. I then learned what true birth was. I was in control of what was going on, and I had warm, comforting women around me the whole time. They never ceased to reassure me and care for me at all times. I had a wonderful birth experience and I got to hold my sweet little boy as soon as he was delivered! That was the most amazing feeling in the world! They did not give me an episiotomy, drugs or touch my baby with harmful chemicals. My third birth was also a wonderful experience. Coleen, the head midwife was on her hands and knees with me for 30—45 minutes letting me rest my head on hers and she didn’t complain once. She graciously allowed me to birth how I needed to birth (even at her expense) and I will always remember that moment. Brittany was comforting with words to me and was so reassuring. Jerusha ran in and out doing whatever needed to be done with that beautiful smile of hers. What a team! Coleen, Brittany and Jerusha are amazing, gifted women and I am grateful that they are the women who have showed me that birth is safe, amazing and wonderful! That is now my normal.

Jessica Argon, mother of 3 (so far)

Watching Coleen and the other Baby Place Midwives deliver babies does something wonderful to my heart and my spirit. There is always so much peace, security, intuition, comfort and sweetness surrounding labor and delivery. It feels like home. I have attended other births at hospitals and it's just not the same. There is no comparison. My husband and I can't imagine having our own babies anywhere else, and I would prefer attending births at the Baby Place than any other birthing facility. It's like a sweet moment where time stands still, and the world just fades away as new life is welcomed into loving arms.

Choosing the Baby Place gave us the ability to have the birth of our choice. Coleen, Jerusha, and Brittany were competent and compassionate. Our prenatal visits were welcoming and nurturing. We felt truly blessed to have them attend the birth of our son. They took such great care of us and our baby boy. Truly there is no place like home, and there is no place like the Baby Place!
